History

The Hartford Healthcare Federal Credit Union began to take shape in 1955, when Hartford Hospital nursing supervisor, Frank Chant and a handful of his colleagues pooled their funds and started a credit union for hospital employees, basing its operations out of a drawer in Chant's desk.

Rosa Taylor was a nursing secretary when she became one of the few founding members. "At the time, banks did not have the services you'd need for members with small accounts, and this offered an alternative," she recalled. Rosa could not have predicted that the tiny credit union would experience the growth and success that it did.

Today, Hartford Healthcare Federal Credit Union has over 12,000 members.  The credit union has grown and evolved while maintaining the same stability and home grown mindset.
